At the Piazza at Schmidt’s in Northern Liberties, Bambi Gallery is hosting a show called “Meat America,” January 7th to 30th. The featured artist, Dominic Episcopo is a Fishtown native photographer featuring carefully chosen cuts of raw meat butchered, sculpted and tweaked to become his muse. The project in its current form includes every state, historical portraits like of Ben Franklin and Elvis.
Episcopo began this work in 2008 with the “United Steaks of America." He was sure after recognized by the USDA as a certified “meatographer” and also can be found at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Fun fact: Episcopo cooked and ate every piece of meat he photographed.
